Our Otter Point Research team received an exciting report of a group of killer whales travelling west off Gordon's Beach.
Photographs were sent to our research team by Liam Ragan, and we were able to identify two different transient killer whale groups: T041s and T109Bs. Both groups are part of the inner coast west coast transient killer whale subpopulation.
The T041s are led by the matriarch T041 (born. ~1966). She has an adult daughter T041A (born. 1988) and to grand calves T041A2 (born. 2013) and T041A3 (born. 2018).
The T109Bs are led by the matriarch T109B (Born. 1996), who has three offspring, daughter T109B3 (born. 2013), T109B4 (born. 2015), and T109B5 (born. 2018).
What was most exciting was that our research team was able to obtain images of T109Bs new calf in the T109B6 first observed in September 2024.
